There is a website where you can watch a group of kittens fight/play/sleep live 24/7, called Keeping Up With the Kattarshians

It is an adorable Icelandic website that has so far featured 3 cat families. They only feature rescued cats and the main focus is to find them a home when they’re old enough. Right now they have a cream tabby momma and her 5 kittens.

http://nutiminn.is/kattarshians/

(I am in no way affiliated I just think it’s so adorable and want to share)

They take in stray pregnant cats, you can watch them give birth and watch the babies grow. Then once the mom is ready she gets spayed and re-homed and so do the babies. This mom just had her babies like three days ago, they’re so wee and adorable!

They are fantastic, and the rescue owner is very involved. They show not only the joy of raising these kittens, but also push the importance of giving  cats a chance. There’s no such thing as a bad kitten cam, but this one definitely gets my vote as the best.

Looking for a gift for friend in the hospital? Consider giving them cozy blankets, soft socks, open toe slippers, book/eReader reader, long phone charger, and condiments for food instead of flowers.

I was recently hospitalized for the first time in my adult life. This made me realize what I would have loved to have as a a gift based on my six-night stay. If you need ideas on what to buy as a gift for a friend who is in hospital, or just given birth and warded, the list below are pretty good options.

Warm, comfortable blanket (microfleece)– Hospital HVACS systems may not offer local room temperature control but instead make coarse adjustments remotely. I was told they could only bump it up or down here at my VA hospital. Also, this was the first time I received an IV treatment and let me tell you they are cold… Had an IV in my forearm and it felt like a cooling coil and I am pretty convinced I could put a fan on it to air condition the room.

Warm, comfortable socks– Reasons are similar to the blanket explanation. Maybe socks with gripping pads wouldn’t be bad in case they walked on the tile without shoes. A friend once mentioned that their family/friends had received socks from the hospital, so I followed up and asked my nurse about this. Turns out, the VA hospital does have socks available and my new RN was shocked that no one had offered them to me.

Condiments – I believe hospital food is designed to be lightly seasoned or bland as it may upset a patient’s stomach. This problem might be compounded by medication. May have to be on the safe side and confer with the patient for what the could stomach safely. I recommended conferring with the patient assuming they would be informed of their dietary restrictions and abide by it. Generally, it would be wiser to consult with the RN or charge nurse regarding what they can have for consumption.

Open toe slippers– Luckily I had flip flops on when I was unexpectedly admitted for my infection. Making short walks to the bathroom would have been a pain if I only had tennis shoes. Probably would of went barefoot in that case.

Long, braided phone charger – My wife brought my 10 ft braided lightning cord and it was great. I can easily circumvent their expensive equipment and tuck it somewhere that wouldn’t get in the nurse’s way. I recommend braided because they tend to be more durable in my experience. Also, I am using a 5ft USB hub for my charger, the extra length is nice to have.

Entertainment: A book, eReader, word games, or anything to help pass the time. The TV service may offer on-demand movies but the selection is slim and the hospital may charge for it as well depending on their administration. Another option might be to get your patient a google/apple card so they cam purchase some movies. If they might have trouble holding the phone for long durations then get a gooseneck cell phone holder that has a clamp connection so you can mount it to the bed. The gooseneck will offer a flexible but rigid structure so the patient can adjust it to their preference. Another friend recommended audiobooks. Great way to pass the time and not strain your eyes!

Gift Cards: Gift cards for local restaurants (especially with delivery service) and gas stations are terrific. would recommend avoiding flowers, balloons, and stuffed animal gifts for hospital patients. They take up quite a bit of valuable real-estate, make it difficult for hospital staff to work, and are a burden when you have to pack up for your discharge. This bonus tip is intended for adult patients.

Power Bank: I recommend a power bank to charge your phone when you are unable to move. This was especially helpful for when they were locked down from holding their newborn.

Eye Mask & Ear plugs: I recommend these items due to minimizing the constant distractions or getting some much-needed rest. Especially useful for patients who are sharing rooms in the maternity ward.

Moisturizers & Chapstick: Moisturizer is great because it’s always so dry in the wards. And just make sure it non scented or hypoallergenic.

All in all, do visit. As often as you can. Being alone, surrounded by strangers in pain… it is lonely and depressing and it is really boring. If you can’t visit, then call. Just talking to someone from the “outside” and knowing they care enough to carve time out of their day for you goes a long way and is particularly important when you’re hospitalized and at your lowest. On the other hand, I’d actually advise people to call and ask before visiting, some people don’t want to be seen while hospitalized. I’m frequently admitted and hate it when my parents call people over without asking me first.

Is your smartphone screen riddled with microscratches? Apply a tempered glass screen protector

In the same way that scotch tape makes frosted glass look more transparent by filling in the “imperfections” in the surface that make it frosted, a tempered glass screen protector fills in the microscratches, and makes the larger scratches/chips less visible. Another added bonus is if the protector has a fingerprint resistant coating, it will make the screen feel smooth to swipe again, since the original coating would’ve worn away along with the scratches/constant slipping in the pocket and everyday use.

The difference is night and day.

Another relevant tip: DON’T do the “apply screen protector in steamy bathroom after a shower to minimize dust presence in air” trick. It can possibly trip the liquid damage indicators inside of the phone (voiding your warranty) or actually damage the phone, because high humidity can do that, even to a water/dust resistant phone. Humidity is water vapor in air, and liquid damage indicators are usually placed close to ingress points like SIM card trays or ports. Air can still get into an ingress protected phone – not worth the risk.

How to clear your YouTube ‘Watch Later’ Playlist in under a minute

We all have a ‘friend’ who has an extremely overcrowded (to say the least) Watch Later playlist on the beloved YouTube. Here’s a way for you to use invasive methods to save your ‘friend’ from their hoarding addiction against his/her will.

Step 1: On your desktop browser, open YouTube and make your way to your ‘Watch Later’ playlist.

Step 2: On the Watch Later playlist page, click the three (3) vertical dots right above the ‘Add Videos’ button.

Step 3: Click the ‘Add all to…’ option. Create a new playlist and add all the videos to that newly created playlist.

Step 4: Now, navigate to your (Insert Playlist Created In Step 3 Name Here) playlist and find the three (3) vertical dots again just like in Step 3 above.

Step 5: Click the dots, select the ‘Add all to…’ option and then UNCHECK the box next to your original ‘Watch Later’ playlist. Now your ‘Watch Later’ playlist is completely empty.

Step 6 (OPTIONAL): Delete the (Insert Playlist Created In Step 3 Name Here) playlist.

VOILA! No more overcrowded ‘Watch Later’ playlist for your ‘friend’.

Hope this helped someone out.

Windows 10’s “Fast Startup” feature may be the cause of extreme slowdowns/issues on your computer

Windows 10 has a feature, called Fast Startup, that essentially keeps the Windows kernel, and drivers, in a sort of ‘hibernate’ mode, at all times (even if you completely power down your system, and unplug it/remove the battery). The pros of this are simple: your system will boot slightly faster (SSD boot times are negligible, however) into the Windows OS. However, updates, driver installations/removals, and other unforeseen modifications, can sometimes hang or get screwy, resulting in the issue being repeatedly loaded each time Windows 10 boots. This can cause massive system issues, including errors when loading folders in the explorer, and application launches. Furthermore, the responsiveness of Windows 10 can seem sluggish, even on a higher end system.

There is no harm in giving the disabling of this “feature” a try, just to see if it could possibly be the cause of your sluggish system. My experience was that disabling Fast Startup resulted in Windows 10 running as if it were a fresh install, fast and responsive. I’m not saying this is a magic fix-all pill, but it could alleviate issues for certain users.

Job Interview Tip Number 12131412412

If a recruiter asks you if you’re interviewing with anyone you should be equivocal because if you say yes they will put you at the bottom of the list.

Recruiters put people at the bottom of the list for hire if they say they have other interviews because those potential hires have the greatest chance of flaking out partway through the hiring process or quitting shortly after hire. So when asked, be equivocal. Dodge the question by giving a non-answer, distracting the recruiter with a question of your own or repeat the answer to the previous question.
